I am one of those people who is always stumped by the simple question, “What do you do?” I do a number of things, but probably not nearly enough.
Most of my time is spent on parenting two children (Ned and Audrey), along with my husband, John. That is, “John is my co-parent”, not “I parent John.” Although he has his moments, as do we all.
I’ve had a number of paying jobs — chiefly in libraries, but also as a technical writer, media analyst, desktop publisher, elder care provider, housekeeper and dish washer. I have one masters degree in Library and Information Science from Kent State University, another one in Medieval and Byzantine Studies from Catholic University of America, and a BA in English from Hiram College. All that formal education was very useful and sometimes fun. But all things considered, I believe I learned almost as much of lasting value from the dishwashing job.
