If you’re familiar with the history of this publication, you’ll remember that for our first couple of years, we were a free publication funded by free-will donations. When circulation climbed to about 100 or so, it became necessary for us to figure out some more predictable way to fund it. Paid subscriptions presented their own challenges, of course, so now we’re going to try yet another method, to see if we can keep this thing going a while longer.
So Mama Says was recently notified that we’ve been approved for a Cityworks Grant for 2002-2003. This grant will allow us to return to free paper subscriptions for residents of our target area on the Near West Side (Wards 13, 14, 15 and 17), beginning with the October issue. We will still continue the email subscriptions as a supplemental service, and will continue to try to find a good, reliable format for electronic delivery. You can also get a sneak peak at how the new website is coming along by visiting Mama Says. It’s our long-cherished hope that we’ll eventually be able to use the Internet to provide archiving, searchability and links. We’ll see.
Our thanks to OCNW for agreeing to serve as our fiscal agent for the coming year of our publication.
