Get Noisy

Abby Horn is sick of all this quiet. If our city is in the midst of
a crisis, as the ongoing Plain Dealer/IdeaStream series has posited,
Abby thinks that the people who live in Cleveland ought to start getting
a little more noisy about it - and to do it in a productive way.
That’s why she is organizing a preliminary meeting for a grassroots,
resident-based response to urban evacuation. I use the term “meeting”
with some hesitation, because this project is being launched in
conscious recognition of the problem of meeting fatigue. The first goal
of the “raucous transformation” will be to initiate a practical way of
confronting the city’s fundamental problems - not to provide another
forum for bellyaching and naysaying. Some ideas include launching a
“Shop in Cleveland” campaign or presenting an organized counterpoint to
the local media about why Clevelanders choose to stay.
Interested residents and other stakeholders are invited to gather on
the second floor of the Market Avenue Wine Bar, 2526 Market Ave., on
Thursday, October 24, at 6 pm.
