I Guess This Exhausts My List of Excuses
Personally, my only routine exercise is dragging the Anchor (that
would be my dog, Leo) up and down the street once a day. It’s not that I
don’t want to exercise, it’s just that with the kids and everything, I’m
too busy. And all those classes, they’re at terrible times. The fitness
centers are too expensive, too, and I hate driving somewhere far away
just to exercise. I don’t want to pay for some expensive class and then
miss half the sessions.
What’s that I hear? The West Side YMCA offers ongoing yoga classes?
And (gasp!) it’s free?
Yes, yes, it’s quite true, all you loafers out there. Joan Maguire
teaches yoga at the Y, located a convenient walk or bike ride away from
most of our readers, on the corner of Franklin Boulevard and West 32nd
St. There are two convenient one-hour sessions every week: Mondays at 5
p.m. and Wednesdays at 6 pm. Nothing intimidating here; one participant
has described it as “basic yoga, pretty no-nonsense, but the class has a
nice comraderie.” Registration is not required. Bring a mat or large
towel to stretch on and meet in the board room on the first floor of the
Y.
If you’re thinking about pursuing yoga, but don’t know what to
expect, visit www.yogajournal.com and click on “New to Yoga” on the menu
bar. For more details on the class, call the West Side YMCA at
216/961-3277.
