Winter Fun at the Y

Posted on Thursday 30 January 2003

Come play at the YMCA!

Friday afternoons haven’t been the same since cold weather and closed bathrooms made Fairview Park a less-than-perfect location for our after-school play group. Fortunately, the West Side Y is still open and serving our neighborhood’s families.

For the month of January, we’ll be giving this location a try for the after-school play group, with one new twist: we’re suggesting a small donation to help defray rental expenses. $2 per child would be helpful, but please come even if you can’t contribute. We’ll have a sign in/sign out sheet on hand to provide valuable evidence about how our Y is used by the community.

Remember that this is a parent-and-child activity rather than a drop-off program. Any arrangements for leaving your child must be made with another parent who will be in attendance and who agrees to be responsible for your child.

We’ll meet in the basement multi-purpose room from 4 - 6 pm on the following Fridays: January 10, 17, 24 and 31. If you’d like to bring a snack or a game to share, that would be great. The Y will have some craft materials on hand that we can use for rainy day fun. When the weather is good, we also have the alternative of spending some of our time on the playground to dispel cabin fever.

While we’re on the topic of our Y, please be aware that other popular programs for families are continuing. You can still join the yoga class or children’s tumbling, and a new aerobics class will start in February. All of these programs are free to members; there will be a small fee for non-members. Word to the wise: if you pay your activity fees in cash, it stays at the West Side Y.
Questions? For details about play group, call Laura Fratus at 216-687-1959. For other program schedules or information, call the YMCA staff at 216-961-3277 See you at the Y!
