Running Out of Ideas Already?

Once in a while I get stuck in a rut with my kids – we go to the same places over and over and forget that there’s a whole lot more of Cleveland we could be getting to know and love as well as our old stand-bys. When the spirit of adventure washes over us, we consult what the PD calls the “bible for area family amusement,” a book called Cleveland Family Fun by Jennifer Stoffel (third edition). It’s conveniently arranged by recommended age range, geographic location, and specific activity as well as alphabetically. It gives you everything you need to make plans (including phone numbers, which I recommend using to be sure info is up-to-date). The directory lists sports and recreation, arts and culture, nature and outdoors, festivals, and more. I have reached for this book on many occasions and always come away with a new idea or a fresh reminder. To find out where to buy it, visit publisher Gray & Co. at www.grayco.com

Another resource I was happy to discover is the Cleveland Kids Inc. website — www.clevelandkids.com — which lists activity ideas but also includes unusual categories such as “Helping Kids in Cleveland” and “Radio Programming” as well as the most extensive list available of area dance and music education programs for kids.

As the days of summer wear on and my imagination runs dry, I’ll rely on these idea-prompters to get me and the kids out of our old routine and into something fresh and fun.
