You Can Tutor

Okay, so bolstering your own ego shouldn’t be the primary objective of tutoring a student in the Cleveland Municipal Schools. But it’s not a bad bonus. Imagine a whole line of elementary school students eagerly waiting to find out if they’ll be the next lucky kid who gets to work with you. No kidding: they actually clap their hands and jump up and down.

Help One Student to Succeed (or just HOSTS) is a literacy program that matches adult mentors with a child for one-on-one work in reading and writing. Tutorial sessions take place at the elementary schools throughout the school day, and materials and objectives for each session are organized by the program teachers who remain in the classroom to facilitate. The sessions are just 40 minutes long.

Kentucky School (West 38th at Franklin in Ohio City) can still use several more tutors this fall. Contact teachers Nancy Ricca and Audrey McNultey at 216-634-2144 or kentuckyhosts@yahoo.com
