This weekend offers an especially good chance to make your holiday shopping dollar work overtime.
On Saturday, 12/6 from 10 AM-4 PM, Women Speak Out for Peace and Justice will holst its Holiday Peace Festival and Bazaar at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 2592 West 14th St. You’ll find work of local artists, cards, calendars, clothing, books, poinsettias and much more. Also this weekend, Interreligious Task Force on Central America holds its annual Fair Trade Shopping Day! This year, shop two locations: on Saturday or Sunday, 12/6 & 12/7, from noon-5 PM, visit Heartbeats, 20015 Detroit Rd. Rocky River, OH (440) 356-8601. Heartbeats is a ministry dedicated to developing self-sufficiency and self-esteem for women, minority and developing world artists by networking and marketing their creative endeavors.
Also on Sunday during the same hours, stop by Ten Thousand Villages, 19321 Detroit Rd. Rocky River, OH (440) 333-7709. Ten Thousand Villages is a non-profit store, selling fairly-traded handicrafts and providing a vital, fair income to Third World artisans. The handicrafts include: pottery, ornaments, textiles, musical instruments, and much more from around the world.
And there is still time to order Fair Trade Gift Baskets from IRTF! They are taking orders until Monday morning, December 8th; pick up for orders will be December 13, 10am - 2pm at the IRTF office at West 38th and Bridge.
